Which net is better, fishing line or nylon? Nylon nets: advantages and features. Which casting network to choose

Created 02/07/2017 12:54

Fishing is a hobby for many men, and sometimes women. This type of outdoor activity requires skill and experience in handling equipment, which includes a casting net. It is designed for catching fish in places where they accumulate and allows you to get tangible results with minimal effort. The net is a fabric in the shape of a circle, along the edges of which there are weights for weighting. After casting it, a cord remains in the person’s hands, using which the tackle is pulled onto the shore or boat. Today, the casting network can be purchased in Moscow and in the regions.

Features of choice

First of all, you need to decide which diameter is more suitable. If the radius is from 1 to 1.5 meters, then the tackle can be used for hunting crayfish. This size is not enough for a large catch, since the fish quickly moves away when in danger. Beginners can use the net to learn how to cast it into the water correctly. Also suitable for beginners is gear with a radius of 1.5 to 2 meters. Its size is already enough for a good catch. For experienced fishermen, a net with a radius of 2 meters is recommended.

When selecting, you need to take into account the sinking ability of the gear. In order for it to quickly sink to the bottom, holding as much catch as possible, the weight must be at least 1.2 kilograms per 1 meter radius. Nylon is heavier when wet, unlike fishing line. What material to choose from depends on where the fishing will take place. For a dirty reservoir, you should give preference to nylon, for a clean one - fishing line.

The size of the net mesh depends on the type of fish to be caught. On average, this parameter is two centimeters, but we must remember the rule - the larger it is, the faster it sinks. The number of lines affects how much fish will remain in the resulting bag and with what effort it will have to be pulled out.

Not so long ago, fishing with nets was considered poaching and was strictly punished by law, but over the years, something has changed. A fisherman who has a desire to catch fish with a casting net can obtain a permit (license) and enjoy fishing! Today's Ukrainian market can boast a wide abundance of such networks, everything is accessible and legal. But alas, we cannot escape the opinion of the majority of people (both fishermen and people who know nothing about fishing). In magazines, newspapers, and on forums there are serious discussions about the fact that the one who picks up a casting net is not a fisherman, branding people poachers, without at all thinking about the fact that, for example, a fisherman with a fishing rod, pulling buckets of fish going to spawn, causes much more damage!!! Fortunately, we will not delve into this painful dispute.
So, casting nets, also known as parachutes, come in two types: " " and " ". They are produced either by hand or by mechanical knitting (on a machine). Even an amateur understands that a hand-knitted net has more advantages. Both parachutes are mesh fabric, which is made of your choice: thread or fishing line. Nets made of fishing line bring more catches, but they are less durable than a parachute made of thread.
All you need to know when purchasing a casting net is: what kind of fish you will catch, the size of the reservoir, the depth at which the parachute will be installed and what the bottom of the reservoir is. Be sure to compare the mesh size, height, thread diameter, length with these data. Remember that before checking the height and length of the net, be sure to bring it into tension. Also, do not forget to pay attention to the mesh pitch. If you want to catch small but valuable fish, then use a net with a small mesh (20mm.), and for a large catch, for example roach, perch, pike, large meshes (27-32mm), crucian carp will only come to a net with a large mesh. Well, if you are aiming for the largest individuals, then you will have to buy a parachute with meshes for them at 120-140mm.
Professionals do not forget, and amateurs remember, that the thinner the thread of the net, the stronger it will hold the caught fish, since a thin thread cuts in better and squeezes the fish, thereby preventing it from getting out of the net.
Basically, casting nets are made from gray threads, since it is less noticeable in the water and the fish are not scared.Nets of blue and red colors have become especially popular. The former are for catching pike perch, the latter for predatory fish. But the choice is always yours.
But you also shouldn’t forget that a net made of thin thread is not always practical, it wears out quickly, rots and you can’t go after big fish with it, for this you need a strong, strong thick thread. Don’t neglect, always take into account the diameter of the thread mesh size!
We would like to touch upon a separate part in our article about Chinese parachutes.It’s not that we are promoting a purely Ukrainian product, but it’s no secret that the Chinese save on every little detail. Having made such a network from very low-quality materials, having bought such a network, don’t be surprised why the floating cord sank after half an hour of being in the water !Their only advantage is the lowest possible price. But if you chase cheapness, you are unlikely to be satisfied with such fishing!

Fishing with nets is a popular type of fishing that has become widespread. The nets can be stationary or move after the ship across the body of water. Catching fish with casting nets is a special method that has nothing in common with the first two. The name of this trap comes from the English “cast”, which means “to throw”. People call such nets parachutes, capes, and throw nets. They are chosen by experienced fishermen who are not looking for easy ways and know all the secrets of which casting net to choose for a particular body of water and type of fish. Modern developments give even beginners the opportunity to prove themselves in such fishing. With the help of a unique device, boring fishing can turn into a real active holiday and even a competition.

The structure and principle of operation of the network

The most common types of these traps are Spanish and American. You can understand which casting network is better by understanding their structure.

  1. Structurally, the American net is a round fishing net, the edges of which are limited by a special rope with built-in weights placed at small intervals. Slings pass through the entire tackle and are brought up through a narrow ring. After the ring, the slings are connected and fixed on a strong, long cord. When pulling the throwing cord, the slings are folded inside the lower edge of the mesh fabric in such a way that a closed space is formed in the form of a compact bag.
  2. The central cord must be braided, thick enough so as not to injure your hands, more than 4 m long. At the end of the cord there is a loop through which you can pull out the tackle, and also secure the trap so as not to lose it in the pond. Ideally, the net should be secured to a static support before casting.
  3. The Spanish fabric is distinguished by the fact that it has peculiar pockets around the perimeter, attached to the mesh fabric. In it, the loads are not distributed evenly, but somewhat chaotically. When removing the net, the fisherman pulls the weight cord and the sinkers converge towards the center under the action of a pulling force. Pockets hold loot.
  4. Which casting net is better, Spanish or American, depends on the skills of the fisherman and the bottom of the reservoir. If you are dealing with a snagy, uneven bottom, where there is something for the net to catch on, then it is better to choose a Spanish one. The American one is easier to cast and use when the river bottom is flat.
  5. There is also an African type of this gear, which has a similar design, but is slightly modified to suit fishing conditions. All types of casting nets are characterized by high catchability.

What influences the result?

When choosing, it is important to pay attention to the thickness of the netting threads: so, the thinner the thread, the better it will hold the fish. Also important parameters are the size and sinking ability of the product. It will be difficult for beginners to cope with a large-diameter canvas, so it’s worth starting with a net up to 1.5 m in size. However, it should be remembered that the radius of the net should be no less than the expected casting depth.

Sinking ability is important for the catchability of a given gear and is determined by the following factors:

  • network weight;
  • line diameter;
  • cell size.

The weight of the net is affected by sinkers made of lead. In theory. For each meter of the radius of the canvas there should be at least 1 - 1.5 kg of cargo. When choosing a net material, you need to take into account that the fishing line sinks faster than nylon and does not absorb water. On the other hand, when casting again, the wet nylon will also be quite heavy and will sink faster, although casting a wet net will not be easy. Another advantage of monofilament thread (fishing line) is its high tensile strength.

Parachute with a regular ring and with a Frisbee ring

Networks can be called new products in the industry. A ring is built into the base of the tackle, which is a limiter that helps to evenly distribute the net when casting. When opened, a circle of regular shape is formed, which falls to the bottom of the reservoir, covering the fish or schools of fish. Thanks to its convenient shape, a fisherman can remove such a net from a pond independently.

Aluminum is a good choice for a ring because it is not very heavy and is prone to corrosion. Don't choose cheap ones Chinese networks with a ring, as they use cheaper materials.

Which casting net is better, with or without a ring, depends on the experience of the fisherman. For example, it will be easier for beginners with this kind of gear, since it is easy to use and requires a minimum of time to prepare for the next cast. It also does not matter how tall the fisherman is, and the dome of the net opens even in strong winds.

This is a specially shaped ring, made of frost-resistant plastic, with curved knitting needles (24 pcs.). American women are equipped with it. Slings are threaded through the knitting needles in pairs so that the ring moves freely inside the net. When casting the tackle, the ring moves from the dome to the center of the trap, helping it to open correctly and quickly. Throwing such a trap is not difficult and can even be done from a boat: just throw it in front of you, adjusting the flight path. The ring guarantees a smooth flight and uniform opening of the parachute, and also helps the net sink to the bottom faster. Such a network does not need to be developed or put in much effort; in fact, the ring will do everything for you.

When purchasing a Frisbee casting net, you don’t have to worry that you don’t have enough experience in handling such traps. This gear is the ideal choice for the beginner who wants to change the boring way of sitting on the bank with a fishing rod for more modern active hunting.

It is important to take into account that the description of networks indicates their radius in the maximum stretched state, which is quite difficult to achieve.

For any fisherman, professional, sport or amateur fishing, be it fishing with nets, with a rod or spinning rod, should bring pleasure regardless of the season, weather: on a sunny clear day, slush or piercing wind. And here, in many respects, he is helped by high-quality, competently selected waterproof equipment and the required equipment. Let's take a brief look at fairly widespread, practical, convenient and affordable net equipment and choose Finnish fishing nets as an example.

What is this fishing accessory?

These are quite soft, flexible, high-strength Finnish mesh fabrics with tear-resistant double knots. They are based on a monofilament fishing line 0.17-0.22 mm thick, resistant to ultraviolet radiation and sea water, in gray, blue, including a steel-colored sheen. Nylon (nylon nets) is also possible. This differs in the methods of planting network fabrics:

High-tech machine (Finnish or domestic, but on Finnish equipment and in accordance with the stated requirements); characterized by fixing the outer cells to the selection using a rigid fixation method;

Manual “on the run” - characterized by the absence of knots on the floating and cargo cords, and therefore free movement of a group of cells on a separate flint along the landing thread is achieved.

All Finnish networks are equipped with cords:

Solid floating (the so-called float, since some models have floats woven into the cord) - it is designed to avoid tangling of the net fabric and straightening it in the water;

A solid weight with a lead thread woven into it - it is designed to vertically immerse the net in water.

Thanks to the manufacturing technology, the cords do not get caught in the cells. As a rule, a floating cord is two times lighter than a weighting cord (for example, 6 g/m is acceptable versus 12/13/14 g/m, respectively). Having a line that is too heavy can have a negative impact on your catch, as it will create too much tension on the line, which is undesirable. However, if necessary, for example, in the presence of a fairly strong underwater current, the net can be additionally equipped with small lead weights. The edges of the net are tied with nylon, which provides even greater tensile strength.

Finnish network: shape and size

Finnish networks vary depending on the length of the cell. By length they are divided into 10, 30 and 60 meters. Their shape resembles a trapezoid. This helps to adapt to uneven bottoms and high catches. The height can be for 10 and 30-meter products - from 0.9 m to 1.8 m (in increments of 60 meters - 3 m. It should be taken into account here that manufacturers indicate the height of the networks in tension, working condition, in At rest, the height of the network will be 15-20 centimeters less.

Cells. What kind of fish are they designed for?

Qualitative characteristics of Finnish networks

It is noted that Finnish fishing nets (reviews from customers and experienced fishermen confirm this) are characterized by the following functional properties:

Strength;

Light weight;

Easy to use;

High catchability and others.

Application

Finnish fishing nets are easy to use. They are designed for fishing both in small muddy ponds and in rivers and lakes that are larger in size and depth. This can be either ice fishing or open water, with or without currents. In cases where fishing is planned in snag-laden northern river waters and one hundred percent confidence in the strength of the net is required, you can resort to purchasing a net made from Finnish rigid twisted fishing line (0.15 mm x 3), but the catch may be slightly reduced. There are varieties of Finnish nets supplied with a shuttle. The most common are single-walled gills, or “gills” (the name comes from the way the fish clings to the net - with gills). There are also three-wall nylon nets. But they are slightly less popular.

Many people today are ready to buy Finnish fishing nets. Reviews from avid fishermen confirm their reliability, durability and catchability. They have proven themselves on the positive side for more than 10-15 years, and to this day continue to be popular and in demand.

Finnish network manufacturers

Finnish fishing nets come in a fairly wide range. They are also characterized by different price categories. They are produced under the names “Beluga”, “Finn”, AXTI, Barrakuda, Cryfish, Riston Kalaverkko, “Baltset” (popularly called “Finka network”, but domestically produced). The average price varies between 250-1500 rubles, but if you really want, you can find much more expensive ones.

There is an opinion: Finnish nylon nets, as well as nylon ones, are a product produced in countries (Thailand, China and others) and exported from there to Europe. Therefore, it is quite acceptable that the net fabrics imported into our country under European, including Finnish brands (Nurli Oy, Kivikangas) are not truly Finnish in origin, although they are quite good quality(sometimes you can’t even tell the difference) and are able to withstand more than one fishing trip. To be more confident in the quality of such products, you can, of course, order the goods directly from Finland.

Casting network- First experience. How to choose so as not to be disappointed with fishing?

How often do we hear and see how the so-called casting networks they soar up and, opening in the air, fall with lightning speed into the water, then picking up everything they managed to catch within the radius of the parachute net. It’s not for nothing that they call it a network - throwaway or a net parachute. But the ease with which the casting net is cast in Asia will not be so easy to achieve for a newcomer who decides to try himself in the role of a Texas cowboy, briskly waving a cord, as if taming a wild mustang. Let's figure out what you need to know about the casting network and how to choose it correctly.

Casting nets (parachute) are divided into Spanish and American. The Spanish type parachute mesh is a mesh that looks like a bag. It is equipped with weights along the lower edge (around the circumference fishing tackle), and on top - a cord with a carabiner and a cuff for ease of casting. A fishing net bag has sides, small protruding double edges that rise with the net when it is removed from the water to ensure the safety of the catch. For a beginner, working with a Spanish casting net will be much easier and more convenient, because the Spanish net flies through the air on its own, it does not need to ensure full expansion by tugging at the slings, that is, holding lines, as in the American type of casting net. Working with a Spanish bait is easier and more enjoyable; you can get real pleasure from fishing, especially when casting a parachute net far from the shore. Lead weights quickly sink the net to the bottom, and all you have to do is pull the fishing tackle by the rope, which is attached to your hand with a cuff. The Spanish flu throw is best done “from yourself and up”, so it is better to practice this movement with your hand in advance.

American type casting network It is better to choose one with a small clamping ring. By choosing this net, you will actually buy a Spanish net, but at the same time it will have slings that will allow you to tighten the bag of netting into even pockets and lift it without losing your catch. In contrast to the Spanish-type casting net, which often turns over and loses particularly large and heavy catches when the net is skewed and the center of gravity is transferred to the edges of the sides when lifted.

An American-type casting net is always equipped with thick lines-slings that penetrate the diameter of the net and freely collect the net from the weights to the cord into small uniform bags, which are tightened simultaneously when lifting the tackle with the catch. The disadvantage of such a mesh is the inevitable process of tangling the lines with each other or with the lead weights of the lower section of the net. If you can avoid the latter - a huge number of models of capes are now sold with sewn-in lead weights to reduce snags, then it is impossible to avoid twisting the mesh with slings, unless you have experience.

Casting Network American is a more effective fishing tackle - its catch is always higher and better, but it is more difficult to cast. Recently, casting American women with a small ring and with weights closed in the cord were invented. Perhaps, today this is the most acceptable mesh for a beginner; it ensures that the entire circumference of the mesh is closed into bags with slings, and is easily tightened with slings to the pressure ring.

Parachute nets with traditional metal lightweight rings with a diameter of 30 and 40 cm, which are used by the residents of Southeast Asia themselves, are easier to open; they guarantee full opening of the net in the air and uniform simultaneous immersion of the gear over the entire area covered by the net. But to start working with a ring mesh, you need to learn how to unwind it. You need to unwind the American casting net on your own, having first moved it onto slings and distributed it evenly on the ground. Next, the net is picked up in the hand and spun like a throwing disc, throwing it as far and evenly into the water as possible. But everything is not as sad as it seems, because we want to enjoy the process of fishing with a net and we will do it!

American-type casting networks have recently gone on sale with big ring Frisbee. This is a plastic ring that has the shape of a circle with parallel arched stripes that converge to the center of the bottom ring of the Frisbee. These arches allow you to pick up and capture air currents in the process of casting fishing gear, as if you were throwing a regular flying saucer to a dog. It’s not for nothing that these networks quickly acquired the name “ Flying saucer". These models have 3 rings: a large one for casting and directing the air flow during flight, a middle one for lines and their collection, and the last - the smallest - is a pressure ring with which you press the pre-stretched mesh with lines to the bottom ring of the Frisbee and using a casting cord with a cuff put on your hand, you throw the net away from you into the water without untwisting the body, as in all other models of American casting nets. Thus, the Flying Saucer casting net is a convenient tackle for beginners. It is cast, has slings and a large ring of 50 cm in diameter, thanks to which the net does not fold and opens entirely when thrown. Also, its use does not require skill or training. The “Flying Saucer” casting net is convenient to throw from a boat, from the shore, from a pier. .

Don't think that a larger mesh diameter will give you more fun and a bigger catch. No, on the contrary, nets with a larger diameter, that is, an opening greater than 3 meters, are harder to throw, and they have a higher percentage of non-opening of the full parachute of the net. If the net parachute does not open, there will be no catch.

The question is often asked: what is the best network to choose from? From fishing line or from nylon?

Made from fishing line, the casting net is lighter, easier to cast and does not require drying after use. But the mesh made of fishing line is less durable, especially at the knots, and breaks faster.

A net made of nylon is more durable, can withstand a larger catch, and is recommended even for sea fishing with sea water, but when wet it becomes heavier and you won’t cast it for a long time. After use, the network must be dried.

The choice is yours, the main thing is the pleasure of fishing, which you will undoubtedly experience when using a casting net. We wish you success!
